In summer 2025, the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre surveyed for the endangered and globally rare Maritime Ringlet, a small butterfly that occurs only in salt marshes in Chaleur Bay in northeastern New Brunswick and southeastern Quebec. The surveys were conducted close to two colonies of the species that were intentionally introduced in the 1990s. Eight salt marshes where the species was previously not known to occur were searched, and Maritime Ringlet was found at three of them, demonstrating that it had dispersed from the introduction sites! This increases the number of colonies known for the species by 33%.
