The Island Nature Trust has benefitted greatly from funding through the CNPP projects. Here’s what they have done thanks to this opportunity!
With support from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Community-Nominated Priority Places funding, we have:
- maintained monitoring efforts for the Endangered Piping Plover and Threatened Bank Swallow across PEI
- educated island grade 7 classes about the beach dune ecosystem through interactive field trips
- established a Coastal Guardian Volunteer program on PEI that empowers locals to take action to protect our coastline and at-risk species
- removed thousands of kilograms of debris from our beaches, engaged with the public through our Passport to Nature event series
- developed free “leash libraries” to encourage dog leashing on nesting piping plover beaches
- established stronger partnerships with like-minded organizations
- engaged with more islanders about PEI’s iconic coastline through numerous outreach initiatives.
