Conserving Chimney Swift Nesting Habitat

Did you know that Chimney Swifts are nesting in our forests and need our help to conserve their nest sites? Through research partnerships and collaboration with land stewards, we’ve studied the habitat and activity patterns of this cryptic species, leading to the discovery of previously unknown Chimney Swift nest trees within working forests of Kespukwitk! By conducting surveys to locate nests and highlighting the importance of natural features, such as large cavity trees and standing dead snags, we’re helping forest stewards recognize their role in supporting biodiversity and improving forest management practices for Chimney Swifts and other at-risk migratory birds. Natural nest and roost sites are crucial to the recovery of this at-risk species.
