The Central Queens Wildlife Federation, supported by the PEI Watershed Alliance, has installed a River Watcher system on the West River in Bonshaw to track adult salmon, brook trout, rainbow trout, and striped bass. This high-tech scanner and camera provide crucial data on adult populations, offering insights beyond traditional juvenile-focused surveys. The system helps revisit past research, monitor trends, and guide future conservation strategies. By improving our understanding of spawning and ecosystem health, this project strengthens long-term river management. It highlights how collaboration and innovation can ensure the protection and sustainability of PEI’s watersheds for future generations.
